Sloan
Pioneer Cemetery
Take Riverbanks Road north from Hwy
199 southwest of Grants Pass, 1.68 miles. The cemetery is on the
right or east side of Riverbanks Rd and is about 300 yards from the
road across a plowed field. It one acre on private property with
some very large oak trees, a cyclone fence, and one outhouse.
Benj Franklin Sloan born Tenn 1826, Martha McKoin
Sloan born KY 1833 and family came to this area from Missouri in
1860. Later purchased the 1854 Isral Elliott DLC from Elisha Sloan
and Thomas Eli McKoin by 1870. In 1877 B F Sloan homesteaded the
adjoining land which included the cemetery.
This memorial is tribute to these pioneers and all
others known or unknown who are buried here was erected by
contributions to the Sloan Pioneer Cemetery Preservation fund in
1977-1979.
