Helenmarr G. Wimp 

   Helenmarr G. Wimp of Redmond died of natural causes on Feb. 8, 2001. She was
91 years old. 

   She was born July 1, 1909 in Tacoma, Wash., to Rev. A.F. and Margaret
Kerschner Grissom. They moved to Oregon in 1919 where she graduated from
Monroe High School. She graduated from the OHSU School of Nursing in 1933. 
Following service in the Veterans Relief Program in Portland she worked as 
the public health nurse in Deschutes County. She married William H. Hammer in 
1934.

   She was the public health nurse in several communities including 
Josephine, Crook and Jefferson. She was hired as the instructor-coordinator 
for the first practical nursing course offered at COCC in 1952. 

   She married James Wimp in 1957 and they moved to Prineville in 1966 where 
she worked as the public health nurse. She retired in 1971.

   Mrs. Wimp was a member of the American Nurses Association, Oregon Nurses 
Association, Delta Kappa Gamma, Central Oregon Retired Educators Association,
the Crook Unit of the American Cancer Society and the Prineville Community 
Church. Her name is also listed in the Who's Who of American Women. 

   She is survived by her daughter, Phyllis Zachow of Los Angeles; son, 
William Hammer of Granite; grandchildren, Holly Shima of San Diego, Kristy 
Holcom, Loren Hammer and Dan Hammer of Redmond, Allen Zachow and Cheryl 
Zachow of Los Angeles; and six great-grandchildren. 

   A memorial service will be held at Niswonger, Reynolds & Tabor Funeral 
Home on Feb. 16 at 1 p.m. with disposition taking place at a later date.
