Alfred (Johnnie) William Meats 

Aug. 25, 1931 - Jan. 1, 2001 

Alfred (Johnnie) William Meats of Prineville died Monday. He was 69. 

A service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 695 
NW Third St. in Prineville. 

Mr. Meats was born Aug. 25, 1931, in Tigard to Joseph and Elsie (Gronlund) 
Meats. He attended grammar and middle school in Beaverton and graduated from 
Beaverton High School in 1949. 

After high school he worked on farms and in sawmills until 1953. He served in 
the Navy in 1953 during the Korean War and stayed in the military through 
1957. After the service he worked in farming until becoming employed at 
Sawyers Viewmaster in Beaverton, where he worked until 1973. 

He married Virginia Sherrill on Oct. 26, 1968, in Sherwood. 

He moved to Prineville in 1973 where he bought a farm and raised vegetables, 
grain and sheep. He retired in 1993 but continued living on the farm. 

Mr. Meats was a lifetime National Rifle Association member and enjoyed 
collecting guns, reloading ammunition and attending gun shows. He also 
enjoyed hunting and traveling to Old West ghost and mining towns. 

Survivors include his mother, Elsie of Prineville; two daughters, Anna 
Hubbell of Newberg and Sherrill Hill of Prineville; a son, Joseph of 
Prineville; and four grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his wife and father. 

Memorial contributions may be made to Pioneer Memorial Hospice and the Oregon 
Diabetes Association.
