Captain Robert J. Young, vice-president and manager of the Western
Transportation company, died suddenly at the family home at
1602 East Sixty-first street, Portland, this morning at 6:30 o'clock,
according to word recently received here.
His death was due to heart disease. He was well and favorably
known among steamboat men. For many years he was captain of
steamboats plying the Willamette river and came to Oregon City
22 years ago, where he resided until about two weeks ago, when
he
and his wife and daughter, Miss Leota, took up their residence
in Portland. Captain Young was a native of Corry, Pa., and was
born November 26, 1863. He is survived by his widow and daughter,
Miss Leota, of Portland; two sons, Melvin and Ernest Young,
who reside at Willamette, Or. Captain Young was a member of the
Masonic order of this city. Funeral arrangements have not been
made. |
