"A Pioneer of 1847"
Oregon City, Jan. 18

Joseph Thomas Wingfield, aged 88 years, a pioneer of 1847, died yesterday morning at the residence of his youngest daughter, Mrs.
J. K. Graham, at Mulino, where he had made his home for several years. For many months he had been feeble, and he gradually sank
until his life went out. Mr. Wingfield was a Virginia by birth, though he had lived a number of years in Missouri before crossing the
plains to Oregon. He took one of the first donation claims on the Molalla, but after the death of his wife he gave the land away, to
his children and spent the remainder of his days with them. The surviving children are Lucy, Mrs. Robert Washington; Hannah, Mrs. J.
K. Graham; George Wingfield, of Wilhoit and Joseph C. Wingfield, of Dufur. The deceased did not ally himself distinctly with any
religious seat, though he affiliated somewhat with the Holiness people. The funeral service will be at the house where he died,
tomorrow.
