Many friends attended the funeral of the late Gardner Whipple,
pioneer of Oregon, which were held at the Methodist church in
this city this afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. Rev. Boyd Moore, pastor,
officiated. Interment was in the family lot in Clackamas
cemetery. Mr. Whipple is survived by his widow, of Canby; four
children, Mrs. Henry Kuehl, Olive A., Gardner M. and Eva Adney
Whipple. He is survived also by a brother, Edwin Whipple of Berkeley,
Cal. |

Gardner Whipple, who recently died at his home in this city,
was one of the most prominent residents of Clackamas county, for
many
years making his home in the Clackamas section before coming to
Canby, having resided on his farm here since 1890. He came to Oregon
47 years ago.
Mr. Whipple, who was one of 12 children, was born in the northern
part of Pennsylvania October 14, 1838. In 1858 he started west
by way of the Isthmus of Panama, and engaged in the lumber business
in San Francisco. In 1862 he enlisted in the civil war. He is
survived by his widow, Eliza Ellen Starkweather, daughter of early
Oregon pioneers; four children, Gardner Whipple Jr., Mrs. George
Kuhl, Misses Olive A. and Adney Whipple, all of Clackamas county.
Interment was in the family lot in Clackamas cemetery. |
