Recent death of Eldon J. Steele, 80, proprietor of Steele's Pansy
gardens, took an internationally known seed grower, who had
studied and practiced law but took up pansy growing as an avocation
while serving as a school principal.
Mr. Steele was born at Mayville, Wis., coming to Oregon in 1892.
He served as principal in Fulton Park, Peninsula and Glencoe
schools for a total period of 13 years, until his retirement in
1908.
Surviving are the widow, Mrs. May Irene Steele; four children;
Rec. Thomas A. Steele, Pendleton; Donald McClaren Steele and Mrs.
John Layman, Portland, and Mrs. J. W. Leache, Wilmington, Cal. |
