Niels H. Smith, 58, well-known farmer and Jersey breeder of Redland,
near here, died at the hospital here last night following an
accident, when he lost his hand and a portion of his arm at the
Smith home Monday, operating a food chopper.
Mr. Smith was born in Denmark December 2, 1871, and came to the
United States with his parents when he was 16 years of age. For
about 30 years he had made his home in the Redland country near
Oregon City.
Mr. Smith is survived by his widow, Mrs. Alta Smith, whom he
married last June; his four daughters and a son by a former marriage,
who are Mrs. Ethel Hicinbotham of Oregon City, Mrs. Helen Conrad
of Redland, Miss Elsie Smith of Oregon City, Mrs. Gertrude McCully,
Portland, and Roy Smith of Logan.
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at the Baptist
church at Logan. Interment will be in the Redland cemetery. |
