"Thomas F. Ryan Passes"
Oregon City, Or., Oct. 20

Thomas F. Ryan, one of the most prominent residents of Clackamas county, died suddenly this morning at 3 o'clock at his home
at Gladstone. His death was attributed to heart disease.

Judge Ryan, who was president of the Bank of commerce, was at his desk Friday and the previous day made a trip to Wilhoit on
legal business. On retiring Friday night he appeared to have improved following an attack of indigestion. Early this morning
his 17-year-old daughter, Virginia, whose room adjoined his, heard her father groan and hastening to his bedside found him
unconscious. She summoned her sister Elizabeth, and also her brother Marshall, who resides close by. Judge Ryan died before the
arrival of the family physician. Judge Ryan's death cast a gloom over the city.

Judge Ryan held many offices of trust here. Besides being president of the Bank of Commerce, he was also mayor of Oregon City
for a year, city recorder for six years, county judge for eight years, deputy state treasurer eight years and state senator,
filling the unexpired term of the late Walter A. Dimick, in fraternal work he was also prominent.

Thomas Franklin Ryan was born at Providence, R. I., April 8, 1859, and was educated in the public schools of Rhode Island and
Massachusetts. For 40 years he had resided in Oregon City. He is survived by his daughters, Virginia and Elizabeth Ryan of
Gladstone; his sons, Marshall T. Ryan of Gladstone and Donald J. Ryan of Salem; a sister, Mrs. Andrew Healey of Lowell, Mass.,
and a grandchild, Marshall T. Ryan Jr., of Gladstone. Mrs. Ryan died a year ago.

Funeral services will be held from the Oddfellows' temple Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment will be in the Masonic
plot of Mountain View cemetery.
