"Pioneer is Buried"
 

In the death of James H. Preston, at his home in Eagle Creek district, Clackamas County, a few days ago, there passed away a
well-known pioneer. Mr. Preston was born in Bedfort County, Virginia, March 10, 1827, and came with his parents to Missouri.
When 21 years of age, he enlisted a company of mounted volunteers and served through the Mexican War. He went to California in
1849 and came to Oregon in 1853. He located af first in Brownsville, and afterwards moved to Eagle Creek, where he lived till
his death. He is survived by his widow, to whom he was married in 1858, and the following children: James T. Preston, of
Berkeley, Cal.; George B. and Harry W. Preston, of Eagle Creek. The funeral was conducted last Tuesday by Rev. A. Thompson.
