Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Canby Funeral
home for William D. Palmer 57, who died in his sleep after retiring
Tuesday night at his home on Union Hall road. Rev. John J. Stone,
pastor of the Canby Christian church officiated, and Burnell Vernon
sang. Pallbearers were Paul Enterline, Abe Hepler, Norman Christiansen
and Louis Gelbrich, co-workers of the late Mr. Palmer at Doernbecher
Manufacturing company's Coalca sawmill, and Orville Dann and L.
W. Howland of Canby lodge No. 156 I.O.O.F. Interment was in Zion
Memorial park.
Mr. Palmer, resident of Canby district since 1945, was a member
of the Christian church in his former home city of Sheldon, Ia.,
and of Canby I.O.O.F. lodge. He was a native of Algona, Ia., born
Nov. 10, 1894. In 1917, after his marriage to Hazel Hatch, he went
to Sheldon, la., from which city they came west to Bremerton, Wash.,
in 1943 and to Canby two years later. He had worked at Doernbecher's
mill since moving here.
He is survived by his widow, Hazel; a son Ronald, and grandson,
Jerry Joe Bales, all at the family home; a daughter, Mrs. Dolle
Bales of Portland; his step mother, Mrs. E. J. Palmer of Portland;
four brothers, George, of Algona, la., Herbert ,of San Francisco,
Donald of Clear Lake, Ia., and Charles. of Sheldon, Ia.; a half
brother, Roger, in Algona; and three haIf-sisters, one in Clear
Lake, one in Texas and Mrs. Wayne Christenson of Madras, Ore.
Among out-of-town relatives here for the services were Mr. and
Mrs. Christenson of Madras, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Palmer ofSan Francisco,
who left Tuesday for their home; Mr. and Mrs. Sam Sutherland, and
Mr. and Mrs . Bud Howerton of Kingston, Wash.; Mrs. Alice Sorensen
and her mother, Mrs. Smith, of Penddleton; Mrs. Will Cole of Eureka,
Mont., who is spending this week with Mrs. Palmer, her sister;
and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Larson, nephew and niece of Mrs. Palmer,
who are here this week from Kingston, Wash. |
