Mrs. Lorena Ann Owings, an Oregon pioneer of 1852, died on Saturday, July 10, at the home of her son, John S. Owings, at Elliott
Prairie. She had suffered two years from an injury sustained in a fall, during which time she was almost entirely helpless. The
injury, together with old age, was the cause of death. She was buried in the Hubbard Cemetery.
Mrs. Owings crossed the plains with her parents, arriving in the Willamette Valley in 1853. In the Autumn of 1853 she was married
to Charles Henry Owings. Soon after their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Owings settled on Elliott Prairie. Mr. Owings died eight years ago.
Mrs. Owings leaves one daughter, Mrs. Casto, and three sons, George, John and William, all residents of Elliott Prairie. |
