"Clackamas Pioneer Dies"
 

Charles Winston Noblitt, pioneer of Clackamas County, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. M. J. Moreland, here tonight,
after a long illness.

Mr. Noblitt was born in Grayson County, Virginia, November 14, 1822. He moved to Missouri in 1835 and was married in that
state in 1846 to Miss Catherine Sconce, who died at Needy, Or., in 1888. The couple crossed the plains to Oregon immediately
following their marriage and settled on a donation land claim at Needy. Mr. Noblitt was a veteran of the Indian war serving
under Captain Kelly.

Surviving children are Charles and Walter, of Needy, Or.; John, of Molalla, Or.; Mrs. J. P. Fender, Lewiston, Idaho, and Mrs.
M. J. Moreland of this city. Eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren also survive. The funeral will take place
Wednesday at Rock Creek.

Charles Winston Noblitt, one of the earliest Oregon pioneers, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. M. J. Moreland, in this
city, Monday evening, after a ten month's illness.

Mr. Noblitt was born in Gracen County, Virginia, November 14, 1822, and moved to Missouri in 1835. In 1846 he married Miss
Catherine Sconce, and in 1852 they crossed the plains by oxteam. They settled on a donation land claim near Needy, where Mrs.
Noblitt died July 14, 1888. Mr. Noblitt came to Oregon City on September 15, 1910, to make his home with his daughter, Mrs.
Moreland.

Mr. Noblitt was an Indian war veteran, and served in the Eighth Cavalry under Captain William Kelly.

He is survived by the following children: John A. Noblitt, of Molalla, Or.; Charles R. Noblitt, of Needy, Or.; Walter
Noblitt, of Needy, Or.; Mrs. M. J. Moreland, of Oregon City, and Mrs. J. B. Fender, of Lewiston, Idaho.

He leaves 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
