Herman A. Lee, who crossed the plains in an ox cart in 1853 and who
has lived in this city for the past 12 years, died at his
home this morning at 6 o'clock at the age of 81.
With his sister, Mrs. Elvina Saltmarsh, he settled first at The
Dalles. While in that town they were attacked by Indians and
narrowly escaped by means of a flatboat, which took them down the
river. After this adventure they went to Portland, where they
passed a number of years, moving to Canby in 1901.
Funeral services will be held at the Methodist Church tomorrow
afternoon and Rev. A. J. Joslyn, an old boyhood friend, will
officiate. Burial will be in Zion Cemetery. |
