Alvin Knapp, a well known business man of this city and president
of the City Council, died of pneumonia this morning at his
residence, after an illness of only a few weeks.
Mr. Knapp was born in Pomerania, Germany, December 4, 1849. He
served his country during the Franco-Prussian war in
1870-1871, and after the war he came to America. He settled at
Cincinnati, O., in 1875. In 1881 he married Miss Emilie Wichard,
who, with her son, John Knapp, survives him.
Mr. Knapp owned considerable property, and was elected to the
City Council for three successive terms. He was president of
the Council for the last two years. Besides being treasurer of
the Deutscher Verein, he was a member of the Foresters, Eagles,
Red Men and many other fraternal orders. |
