Funeral for Linn E. Jones, 82, long-time Oregon City druggist
and for two terms Oregon City's mayor, will be Monday at 10:30
a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal church in Oregon City. Vault interment
will be at Mount View cemetery in Oregon City.
Mr. Jones died Friday in an Oregon City rest home after a long
illness.
He is survived by his widow, Erma L., to whom he was married
September 24, 1903, and by several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements are in charge of the Holman-Hankins-Rilance funeral
home at Oregon City.
Mr. Jones was born January 16, 1875, in Oregon City. He was employed
by Huntley Brothers, early druggists, before going into
business with Chambers Howell. He and Howell established a drug
store on Main street in Oregon City in 1900.
It was in 1914, during Mr. Jones' first term as mayor, that the
first elevator was built in Oregon City. In addition to his
service as mayor, Mr. Jones was also the city treasurer at one
time. He served two terms in the house of representatives of the
Oregon state legislature and five terms in the state senate.
He lived in Oregon City until 1930 when he was appointed by Governor
A. W. Norblad as secretary of the state board of pharmacy
and moved to Portland. His Portland home was at 1951 S. E. Larch
avenue. He served as secretary of the pharmacy board for 20
years until his retirement in 1950.
Mr. Jones was a 50-year member of Multnomah Masonic lodge No.
1 and of the Royal Arch Masons. He also was a member of the
Elks lodge and Pioneer chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star
in Oregon City and of St. Paul's Episcopal church. |
