Van R. Hyde, 81, for the past 40 years a resident of Oregon
City, died Thursday at 5 o'clock at the Oregon City hospital. Mr.
Hyde
recently met with an accident in which he suffered from a broken leg, caused
from a fall on concrete flooring.
Mr. Hyde was born in Davenport, Iowa on January 19, 1847. He
came to Oregon in 1872, locating at Salem. For almost 40 years
he
engaged in the abstract business and also practiced law in Oregon
City, retiring about a year ago on account of ill health.
Surviving are 3 daughters, Mrs. J. W. Culbertson and Mrs. A.
A. Pacheco of Steilacoom, Wash., and Mrs. J. M. Peterson of Los
Angeles, Cal. His wife Lemor died in Salem on June 30, 1879.
He was the son of E. J. and Emma Hyde, early pioneers of Oregon.
Funeral services are to be held this afternoon at 1:30 o'clock
at the Holmans & Pace chapel. Rev. J. A. Cleland, rector of
St.
Paul's Episcopal church, will officiate. Interment will be in the
I.O.O.F. cemetery at Salem and then the body laid to rest beside
that of his wife. |
