Robert F. Hughes, who crossed the plains with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Hughes, when he was 9 years old, died suddenly in
this city this morning at 10 o'clock.

Mr. Hughes was born in Saline county, Missouri, June 11, 1845. After crossing the plains the family settled at Springwater, where
the father took up a donation land claim. Robert Hughes helped the father to clear and cultivate the land. In 1864 he married Miss
Susan L. Gilmore, a daughter of pioneer residents of Salem. They alter came to Oregon City, residing in this county more than 40
years.

Mr. Hughes is survived by his daughters, Mrs. Lillian Kelly; Mrs. E. R. Hughes of Santa Rosa, Cal.; Edward Hughes, who is on his
way to that city to reside; a sister, Mrs. Ada Pearl of this city, and a brother, John M Hughes of Spokane, Wash.
