H. W. Holden, 81, builder and original owner of the street car
system in Eugene, Or., died Tuesday at the farm of his sons
near Wilsonville. For 18 years Mr. Holden had divided his time
between the Portland residence of his son. A. G. Holden, and the
ranch at Wilsonville. In 1891 he came to Eugene from Texas, where
he had been engaged as a railroad contractor, and began
construction of the car lines in Eugene. He lived in Eugene for
some time and then came to Portland.
Mr. Holden was born at Milford, N. H. He was a member of the
Oddfellows.
A. G. Holden of Portland and Harry M. Holden of San Francisco,
two sons, are living. An only grandchild, Mrs. Mary N. McKee,
lives at Reedsport, Or.
The body will be taken to Eugene, where services will be held
at 2:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon. Burial will be at Eugene. |
