George Conrad Helzer, ex-mayor of Oregon City and owner of Helzer
Market, died of a heart attack Wednesday afternoon at Oregon
City hospital.
Mr. Helzer retired as mayor of Oregon City Jan. 7. He had been
a resident of Oregon City for about 25 years. He was a
butcher by trade.
He was born July 25, 1908, in Denver, Colo. After taking up residence
in Oregon City, he became active in civic affairs and
served six years as a city commissioner and two as mayor.
He was first citizen of Oregon City in 1957 and also served as
vice president and director of United Grocers.
Survivors include the widow, Doris; one son, Dick, a student
at Oregon State College; one daughter, Mary Ann, Oregon City; two
stepchildren, and his mother. |
