"Dies on Homestead He Settled on in 1846"
Oregon City, Or., Feb. 15

Mark Hatton, an early pioneer of Oregon, died on the old homestead Sunday, aged 88. Mr. Hatton was born in Rockburch County,
Virginia, December 8, 1821, and at the age of 9 years moved with his parents to Brown County, Ohio, where the family remained
five years, going then to Marshall County, Illinois. On April 16, 1835, he married, and shortly after, with his bride, started
for the West, remaining a year in Jackson County, Missouri.

In May, 1846, they started out for Oregon, the immigrant train being composed of 50 oxteams and wagons, six persons to the
wagon.

Mr. Hatton and family settled on a donation land claim at Stone on the Clackamas, at which place he remained until his death.
Mr. Hatton's first wife dying, he later married Miss Mary Ellory Wills, who still survives him. He also leaves seven children:
Mrs. Caroline Springer, John, Frank, James, Charles, Owen Hatton and Mrs. Ellizabeth Watts. Two of his sons are dead, Forsythe
and Abel.
