Erwin C. Hackett, 87, Oregon City, last incumbent county recorder,
a deputy sheriff of Clackamas county for many years and
ex-mayor of Oregon City, as well as teacher of Clackamas county
schools for many years, died this morning at the family residence
at Seventeenth and Washington streets. Mr. Hackett, who had been
in failing health for several years, was suddenly stricken
Monday morning.
Mr. Hackett, son of the late John C. and Helen Johnson Hackett,
was born at Park Place December 30, 1851.
Mr. Hackett served as deputy sheriff under the late Captain J.
T. Apperson, the late William Ganong, Sheriff John Shaver and
Sheriff W. J. Wilson. He was county recorder for ten years.
Mr. Hackett served as mayor of Oregon City for three different
terms, from 1916, 1917 and 1918. He was president of the
Oregon Pioneers' association.
Mr. Hackett was a member of Oregon lodge, No. 3, I.O.O.F., of
this city for about 49 years; for about 25 years member of
Multnomah lodge, No. 1, A.F. and A.M. (local order of Masons) and
for several years was a member of B.P.O.E., No. 1189, (local
order of Elks). In the I.O.O.F. lodge her served as chaplain.
Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Mary Hackett, Oregon City; a son,
Erwin A. Hackett, Oregon City; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Knotts,
Portland; Mrs. Stella Hackett, Dos Palos, Cal., and a brother,
Alvin N. Hackett, New York, N.Y. |
