Mrs. Rachael Bird Ford, 81, of Tualatin died at the home of
her daughter, Mrs. J. E. Hedges of Tualatin, Thursday of last
week. Funeral services were held at Tualatin Saturday. Interment
was in the cemetery near Tualatin.
Mrs. Ford, who was the mother of Mrs. J. W. Noble, for many years
a resident of Oregon, was born in Illinois and is survived
by seven children, 19 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
The children are Mrs. Hedges, Mrs. Noble, A. S. and H. P. Ford
of Portland; Mrs. Harriett Hyer, Mrs. H. E. Jenkins of Portland;
Mrs. F. Weckert of Sherwood. Judge E. C. Noble of Oregon City
is her grandson. |

Mrs. Rachel Bird Ford, Oregon pioneer of 1847 and well known
among the older generation of Oregonians, died Saturday, October
28, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John E. Hedges at Tualatin,
Or. She would have observed her 82d birthday this month, had
she lived.
Mrs. Ford was a charter member of the Pioneers' association and
of Winona grange. She was born near Lacon, Marshall county,
Illinois, November 28, 1840. At the age of 7 she crossed the plains
with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Bird, taking six
months to make the journey by oxteam. They settled at what was
known as Linn City. Miss Bird was married to Robert C. Ford on
January 16, 1856. He passed away in 1914. |
