Philander T. Davis, a pioneer of Clackamas County, died suddenly
at Estacada March 9. He was born in Indiana on March 20,
1844. He enlisted in the Union Army when he was 19 years old, belonging
to the Twenty-ninth Iowa Regiment.
After the war, on January 1, 1867, he married Miss Jennie B. Hayes.
Two years later they crossed the plains to Oregon and
settled on a homestead near Clackamas Station. There he became
a member of the Lone Star Lodge No. 145, I.O.O.F., also a member
of Meade Post, G.A.R. At the time of his death his home was at
Milwaukie, Or., but he spent most of his time at Estacada, where
he was engaged in the sawmill business.
He leaves a widow and three children, two sons and one married
daughter, Charles and Arthur Davis and Mrs. Hermann Webster.
