"Old Rogue Indian Dies"
Oregon City, Or., April 23
Martha, a well known Indian woman, was buried here this afternoon.
She died at midnight Wednesday
in the Indian settlement south of town. She was the wife of Joseph
Andrews, commonly called "Soosap,"
and was nearly 70 years of age, having been born in Jacksonville,
Or. Martha was a member of the
Rogue River tribe. She was married to Andrews about 35 years ago.
Five years ago she was made
totally blind by an attack of Bob Gardner, a degenerate character,
who was sentenced to 20 years in the
penitentiary and is now in the state insane asylum. |
