Mr. and Mrs. James Henry Wilson celebrate their golden wedding anniversary at their home near Sandy today.
Born near Joliet, Ill., 84 years ago, Mr. Wilson came to Oregon with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William S. Wilson, in a
covered wagon drawn by an ox team, and made his first visit to Portland when little more than a year old. After the seven
months' trip overland, the Wilson family settled in the Willamette valley below Salem, moving later to the upper valley near
Eugene, and afterward to Umatilla county.
In 1884 Mr. Wilson returned to Iowa, where he met Rachael Ellen Sullivan of Winthrop, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. O.
Sullivan. A year later they were married at Prairie du Chien, Wis. After living in Iowa for a short time, they turned toward
the northwest and resided in the Boise valley for many years before coming to their present home south of Sandy about eight years
ago.
Nine of their ten children are living in the northwest, Cora B. Wilson at Payette, Idaho; Mrs. Peter De Smet at Walla Walla,
Wash., Lena Wilson, Homedale, Idaho; Mrs. H. M. Ackaret, Emmett, Idaho; Mrs. Ben Calvert, Nyssa, Or.; Mrs. C. P. White, Yamhill,
Or.; Mrs. O. D. Moore, Boise, Idaho; and Marion H. and Joseph A. Wilson at Sandy. |
