The home of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Marshall of Clarkes, 12 miles east of Oregon City, was the scene of a reunion Sunday when
the 50th anniversary of the marriage of Frederick Marshall and Elizabeth Rutherford was celebrated.
Mr. Marshall was born 78 years ago in Barrie, Essex county, Ontario, Canada, and Mrs. Marshall was born in Fergus, Ontario,
six years later. They were married in Dundalk, Ontario, January 26, 1880. In 1888 Mr. and Mrs. Marshall with their four
children immigrated to Oregon and settled on a farm at the foot of the butte in Highland, removing in 1901 to their present home,
the Blainey ranch, at Clarkes, where they have since lived.
Of their 11 children, eight sons and three daughters, eight were present at the golden wedding reunion: William, Charles,
Theodore and Oliver Marshall, all of Clarkes; John Dixon Marshall of Gales Creek, Or., Mrs. Alfred Martin (Augusta Marshall) of
Gateway, Or.; Wilfred L. Marshall of Forest Grove, Mrs. R. B. Haag (Elizabeth Marshall) of Seattle. Mary Marshall, now Mrs.
William S. Preston of Huntington Beach, Cal.; Wellington Marshall, present address unknown, and Benjamin Marshall of Gateway,
were unable to be present.
Of the 37 grandchildren, 16 were present. The 37th grandchild was born on the golden wedding day at Forest Grove, the son of
Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Marshall. |
