"Oregon City Couple to Observe 50th Wedding Anniversary"
Oregon City, Or., July 12

At a family reunion to be held tomorrow at their home at 902 Washington street, Rev. Philip Kemp Hammond and Mrs. Hammond will
observe the 50th anniversary of their marriage, which took place at the home of the bride's parents in Chicago on July 13, 1881.

The Rev. Mr. Hammond is a retired minister of the Episcopal faith, having served the church for 33 years in Oregon and for
several years prior to that in Illinois.

He was born in London, September 13, 1857, one of a family of six born to Mr. and Mrs. William Hammond. He crossed the
Atlantic ocean in May of 1877 and lived a few months in New York before going to Chicago.

In this mid-west city he met Miss Emily Ward, the oldest of the four children of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Ward. Miss Ward, a
native of New York, was born December 27, 1861, and moved with her parents to Chicago when she was a young child. After their
marriage the couple lived in Illinois for several years, Rev. Mr. Hammond being clergyman in the diocese of Quincy and prior to
that in Chicago.

In the fall of 1898 the Hammond family moved to Oregon City, where Rev. Mr. Hammond became rector of St. Paul's, a position he
held for nine years. He served as rector at St. Mary's in Eugene for six years, and for 15 years as vicar of Trinity parish in
Ashland.

On October 1, 1929, shortly after his 72d birthday, he resigned his position at Ashland and retired from the active ministry,
moving with Mrs. Hammond to Oregon city to make their home near two of their three sons.

They have four children, William of Gladstone, Phillip of Oregon City, V. Ward of Grants Pass, and Miss Marguerite Hammond of
Medford.
