The golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Chitwood of Damascus was held at the family home Sunday, August 22, 125
guests being present. The occasion was also in honor of Mr. Chitwood's birthday. A gold cake bearing 50 candles, and one with
73 candles, were cut at the big dinner which was served on long tables on the lawn.

Mr. Chitwood was born while his parents were crossing the plains, 73 years ago, and they settled at Damascus, where they were
connected with the earliest development of that section. On August 22, 50 years ago, Miss Emma Deardross, (whose parents also
crossed the plains), became the bride of J. D. Chitwood.

Many beautiful gifts were presented to the aged "bride and groom" Sunday. Their children present were Mrs. Lulu Herren, Mrs.
Dollie Greenwell and Mrs. Mary Eckert of Woodstock, Mrs. Emma Rodlin of Forest Grove, Harry of Portland, David of Aberdeen Wash.,
and John of Damascus, and Mrs. Cleveland Bliss of Gresham; also 12 grandchildren. Brothers of Mr. Chitwood present were George
of Portland. Estes of Estacada, and Joe of Sunnyside, Albert Chitwood, a cousin, whom the family had not seen for many years was
also present from Lincoln island, and Mrs. Chitwood's sister, Mrs. Ida Curtis. Two childhood friends were also present, Mrs.
