"Oregon City Couple to Keep Golden Anniversary"
Oregon City, OR., June 4

Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Caufield, who will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary next Wednesday, have lived the 50 years of
their wedded life in Oregon City. The couple has arranged to celebrate their anniversary by giving a family dinner at the Sign
of the Rose, Portland, Wednesday evening.

Edwin Grattan Caufield and Maria Putrow were married June 8, 1882, at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. D.
Putrow, 1104 Washington street, by Rev. George H. Atkinson, early-day Congregational minister, Charles H. Caufield, brother of E.
G. Caufield, is the only wedding guest now living. They lived for four years with the bride's parents, later making their home
at 104 Eighth street, moving in 1920 to the new house constructed on the site of their first residence.

Mr. Caufield, youngest son of Robert and Jane Caufield, who died in 1891 and 1899, respectively, was born in Oregon City
August 21, 1859. He attended the Oregon City seminary, and his first work was in a local grocery store. Later he worked for
George A. Harding, early-day druggist here, and in 1886 he entered the drug business for himself. The site of E. G. Caufield
field drug store is where the southern part of the Beaver building now stands. Clayde G. Huntley was later admitted to
partnership in the drug firm, which became known as Caufield & Huntley.

In 1891 Mr. Caufield entered the Bank of Oregon City as cashier. His brother, Charles H. Caufield, was then and is now
president of the bank. After serving as cashier for 25 years Mr. Caufield retired from active business in 1916. He served two
terms as mayor of Oregon City, in 1897-8 and again in 1906-7.

Mrs. Caufield, nee Maria Putrow, was born in Peace Dale, R. I., May 28, 1860, and later lived in Providence, whence she came
to Oregon in 1872 with her parents. Her father died in 1914 and her mother five years later. Her only brother, William, died
in 1904.

Mr. Caufield has served as treasurer of the Clackamas County Humane society since its organization in 1891, and Mrs. Caufield
has been secretary of the same organization since 1895. Both are very much interested in animals, birds and plant life.

Mr. Caufield has two living brother, David, an early-day steamboat man on the Columbia and Willamette rivers, now 86 years
old, and Charles H., who is president of the Bank of Oregon City. Both live in Oregon City. Several nieces and nephews also are
numbered among the Caufield relatives.
