The beautiful country place of W. H. Bonney, eight miles east of
Oregon City, was the scene of a merry assembly, March 9, the
occasion being the golden wedding of Mr. and Mrs. George C. Armstrong
and the 20th anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Bonney.
Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong were married in England, March 9, 1868,
and came to America in 1873. They lived in Michigan and
California for a period of three years where Mr. Armstrong was
employed as a mining engineer. In September, 1876, they moved to
Oregon, where they took up a homestead, which is their present
home. They are loyal American citizens and are now actively
engaged in Red Cross work.
The assemblage Saturday night, was an expression of the countless
friendships which they hold. As a token of their respect
and esteem, their neighbors presented them with appropriate gifts
in gold and china. The evening passed quickly, interspersed
with readings, stories and old-time songs. Delicious refreshments
were served and the coterie of friends departed to their homes.
Those in attendance were Messrs. and Mesdames, A. L. Allen, H.
A. Allen, Gill, Hendrickson, Rose, Hinkle, Hamilton, Armstrong
and Bonney; Mr. Jensen, James Hamilton, Alva, Eugene and Chester
Bonney, Sergeant Jack Hindle, and the Misses Clara Fullam,
Bertha Oliver and Jessie Bonney. |
